The perfect combo

Summer is approaching and it is time to get rid of the winter “fur” with a full body wax, luscious lashes, and shaped brows.

To make this the perfect combo, here is a day’s worth of delicious and nutritious meals to start looking beautiful from the inside out.

Breakfast - 40gr of plain natural yogurt and a cup of rooibos tea.

Tip: BE CAREFULL! Not all yogurts are created equal. Check the ingredients and if you see thickeners, sweeteners or preservatives, you are ingesting a lot more than goodness.

Lewis Creamery makes a pot of unsweetened or sweetened with honey, lemon & Juniper or boysenberry yogurt that has just milk culture in it. It is more expensive but it can be portioned to make up for three breakfasts and you will save on $40.00 of probiotics supplement.

Rooibos tea (red bush) contains antioxidants with anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce inflammation and feelings of aches and pains. The anti-spasmodic compounds in rooibos tea help to alleviate abdominal pain such as stomach cramps by activating potassium ions throughout the body.

Milk can be added to this tea.

Morning snack: Two slices of FRESH pineapple.

Pineapple has loads of vitamin C and antioxidants that can treat acne, sun damage and uneven skin toning. it will make your skin smooth and add that extra layer of youngness over it.

Tip: although eating pineapple slices will give you vitamins, minerals and fiber, if you don’t like the texture you can juice your pineapple slices and have all the benefits of vitamin C without the fiber.

Lunch: wholemeal pita bread with chicken, egg or falafel, fresh veggies and hummus.

Shredded carrots, cabbage, red onions, and kales chopped cucumber, capsicum, tomato, spinach, or choose your favourite veggies and wrap them up in pita bread with hummus spread and a protein of your choice.

Or treat yourself and buy a healthy take out one from Pita-pit.

Tip: REMEMBER: take it easy on the sauces :)

Afternoon snack: a mango.

Just peel and enjoy.

Tip: a ripe mango will feel soft and will look yellow with a red/pink side.

Just like pineapple, it a great source of vitamin C and A to give your skin a beautiful glow.

Dinner: Spaghetti with pesto shrimps and cherry tomatoes.

In a capable pan, saute’ the shrimps and cherry tomatoes with a clove of garlic, two spoons of olive oil, a pot of basil or coriander pesto and season to taste. Cook the spaghetti in salted water and add to the sauce. Simmer for five minutes and serve.

You can substitute shrimps for any fish or other protein and add more veggies

Tip: use sea salt for cooking and leave the leftovers for lunch the next day :)

Supper: Chocolate and nuts

Melt four squares of dark chocolate, add 4 chopped almonds and 2 brazil nuts, or the equivalent amount of nuts of your choice. Spoon the mix in an ice tray or small molds. It will cool down and harden quickly so you can enjoy this little treat immediately.

We all know what chocolate does right? So add some nuts and replenish zinc for younger-looking skin and nails
