Face masks and skin

Face masks are the new normal after the Covid-19 virus outbreak. Much controversy has been highlighted by the media on the benefits and downsides of face masks but in the end, our responsibility is to keep ourselves and others safe and wearing a face mask does make a difference.

Face masks have been used for a long time by health professionals, beauticians and more when performing certain tasks but at present, it is a constant requirement when working and the skin can suffer.

At the end of a long shift, the chaffing and irritation from face masks can leave unpleasant and itchy markings. There are some ways around this so read on and see what solution could work for you.

If you have to use a disposable mask, you could apply some Vaseline to the rim of the mask. If you don’t tolerate Vaseline, pawpaw ointment is another barrier that will protect your skin from chaffing.

Use a moisturiser in the morning and reapply it in the afternoon. Make sure you invest in a really good moisturiser that will not make the chaffing worst and avoid makeup as it could inflame the chaffed area.

If you can choose what type of mask you wear, have a look online for the nearest seamstress to you, that is making masks. It is a good way to support your locals.

Pure cotton is desirable and the choice of the patterns is infinite, making masks from fashionable to fun.

Make sure the mask complies with your workplace regulations and that is thick enough to protect yourself and others from the spread of the virus.

IMPORTANT: ALWAYS dispose of your mask mindfully in a bin. DO NOT throw your mask in waterways or on the road. Eco-karma is always watching ;)
